It’s always hovering beneath the surface. Just waiting for the most inconvenient moment to strike.
I was having a good week. All things considered, it didn’t suck — I was healthy, nothing terrible had happened to anyone I loved– but depression doesn’t care about circumstances. Depression is that uninvited guest who knocks on your door and doesn’t wait for you to even open up before shoving itself inside your home. It slumps into your favorite chair and refuses to leave. One moment you feel fine, and the next you’re overwhelmed with feelings of inadequacy and sorrow.
Those feelings suck.
But it’s okay if you have them. It’s not weird. It doesn’t make you broken. You’re never broken, regardless of how you may feel.
Because feelings change. They can even lie. They’re never stagnant. They’re not the reality.
The reality is people are awesome just the way they are, depression and all. YOU are awesome, just the way you are.
So if you’re feeling blue right now, and don’t seem to know why, then know this: you’re not alone. I’m here. The world is here. Don’t be afraid to reach out. You’d be surprised how many people are waiting to hold your hand.
